This half day training course provides learners with the opportunity to explore sensitive factors surrounding end of life care, including looking at regulations and legislation in place to protect patients, families and carers.

Participants will explore theoretical models for end of life stages and consider how to offer assistance to key people during end of life care. They will understand how to address sensitive issues with patients and their families, and provide support to manage pain and discomfort. They will explore their own feelings related to end of life care, and identify ways in which they can access support and reflect on difficult situations.

This is an accredited course.

This half day course is designed for leaners wishing to take further training or to develop their knowledge and/or skills in this subject area. It is recommended for first-aiders in the work place environment.

Trainees working towards this qualification will know cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation, and will be able to safely and effectively use an automated external defibrillation machine by the end of the course. In line with industry guidance it is recommended that learners sit an update of this training every 3 years.

This course can be offered as either an accredited or non-accredited training solution.

Duration: 3 1/2 Hours

The introduction to health and safety awareness is designed for those working in roles responsible for the overall health and safety practices of the organisation.

It gives delegates and awareness of health and safety and how it affects their daily role.

We will cover:

  • Understanding the law
  • Hazard and Risk, Risk Assessment
  • Common Hazards (including Fire, electricity and other aspects identified by delegates)
  • Accidents and incidents

A two day course which provides learners with the knowledge and confidence to offer opportunistic brief interventions, or engage in brief interventions with, individuals about behaviour change which could improve their health and wellbeing.

The focus is on effective communication strategies, such as active listening, effective hearing, reflecting back, addressing misunderstandings and how to make observations during a brief exchange with an individual. Learners will be competent in supporting others through identification of ways to build relationships, presenting information clearly, concisely and appropriately, encouraging others to adopt healthier behaviours, exploring an individual’s motivation and feelings, and the options available to them.

The course teaches an understanding of how learners can support individuals to adopt strategies which would enable them to make positive lifestyle or behaviour changes, how to identify an individual’s priorities and right to refuse advice, and how to create a joint action plan. They will be able to distinguish between what constitutes a very brief intervention and a brief intervention, and identify ways in which the context or circumstances may affect development of a plan to change an individual’s life style.

Assessment is through a 45 minute exam at the end and is fully accredited, but as with all our courses we can offer an unaccredited version suitable for your organisation.

One day course providing learners with the knowledge and skills required to understand the principals of promoting health and wellbeing, and how to direct individuals towards further practical support in their efforts to attain a healthier lifestyle.

Learners will form an understanding of how inequalities in health may develop and what the current policies are for addressing these by focusing on how the effects of various health inequalities can impact on local communities. They will explore how effective communication can support health messages, identify effective communication skills in this area and highlight possible barriers to communication and strategies to overcome these.

Learners will consider how to promote improvements in health and wellbeing to individuals by developing an understanding of the western scientific model and World Health Organisation definitions of the terms, identify positive and negative influences, consider strategies for the promotion of health and wellbeing, discuss the use of resources to promote health and wellbeing, and consider how individuals can promote health and wellbeing.

Finally learners will be able to understand the impact of change on improving an individual’s health and wellbeing, giving examples of behaviour change that can improve an individual’s outcome, outline how individuals can be encouraged to adopt behaviour change, and identify positive and negative influences on behaviour change.

The course is assessed by a 45 minute exam and is fully accredited.

Accredited Course

Duration: 1 Day

This course is intended for smaller workplaces where the appointed person will be able to take charge in the event of an illness or accident. At the end of the course attendees will have demonstrated competence in basic life support skills and increased their awareness in managing a first aid incident in the workplace.

The course contains:
– How to act safely and promptly in an emergency
– How to administer CPR
– How to administer first aid to someone who is choking/unconscious
– How to promote safe first aid practice in accordance with all appropriate policies and legislation
– Recognising the importance of cross infection
– Basic advice on first aid at work

A certificate will be issued which will be valid for 3 years. No prior knowledge is necessary.

Training can be delivered on site.

Accredited Course

Duration: 1 Day

Aimed at anyone working in a catering setting where food is prepared, cooked and handled. On completion of the course you will have knowledge in Food Safety Hazards and the Law;

Temperature Control, Refrigeration, Cooking, Food Handling, Safe Storage, Cleaning and food Premises and Equipment.

A short multiple choice exam will be held at the end of the day.

This qualification will assist those who wish to become a Paediatric First Aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. Its topics are regarded by the Early Year’s Foundation Stage as being important to maintaining good practice in the safe, prompt and effective treatment of injuries and ill health of infants and children who are the care of trained personnel.

Unit 1 begins with learners developing an understanding of the role of a paediatric first aider, and how to assess an emergency situation and act safely and effectively. Participants are taught how to provide first aid for an infant or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally, or unresponsive and not breathing normally. They will learn how to deal with a foreign body airway obstruction, how to provide first aid for an infant or child who is wounded or bleeding, and how to deal with shock.

In unit 2, learners will gain knowledge on how to treat a suspected fracture or dislocation, how to treat a head, neck and back injury, how to deal with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose, and how to treat an infant or child with a chronic medical condition or sudden illness. They will learn how to respond to an infant or child experiencing the effects of extreme heat or cold, how to provide first aid after an electric shock, how to treat scalds and burns, how to respond to poisoning, and how to treat bites or stings.

Learners are assessed throughout the duration of the course and will also sit a 30 minute examination at the end to achieve the qualification.

As part of the standards of registration for social care providers; staff have to complete the Care Certificate within 12 weeks of starting work in the care industry.

3 Hour workshop.

This 3 hour session aims to introduce the principles of safeguarding and will give those who work in support and care sectors a greater understanding of the subject to improve their services as well as an update for their mandatory CPD.

This session will help you to:

  • Gain and understanding of safeguarding and relevant legal framework
  • Have an awareness of different types of abuse and the long- term impact on those affected by it
  • Consider your and your organisation’s responsibilities in relation to safeguarding
